Inspired by lady Diana’s extraordinary commitment towards humanitarian efforts, and her campaign to ban land mines this commemorative portrait was created by an Afghan lapidary artist as a tribute to the princess after her death in 1997. The portrait is entirely made of natural stones, which are individually hand cut and inlaid on white marble background. There are no artificial colours used in the making of this extraordinary work of art. The frame around the portrait is made of deep blue Lapis Lazuli from the Badakhshan region of Afghanistan and the base of the portrait is white marble. The stones used in facial features of the portrait are different varieties of Jasper stones. It took the artist more than six months to complete this portrait and over 600 pieces of stones were used to make the portrait. The portrait measures 19 ¼” x 14” x ½”.
