 Lapis Lazuli Ashtray  (**SOLD**)
Lapis Lazuli Ashtray
This octagonal shaped ashtray is handcrafted by Afghan artisans using Lapis Lazuli from the Badakhshan district of Afghanistan where Lapis has been mined for several decades. Lapis Lazuli measures about 5.5 in hardness and 2.7 in density. The blue comes from Lazurite, Hauynite, Sodalite, and Noselite. Lapis Lazuli from Badakhshan, Afghanistan was used in the palace of king Darius 1 (522-486 B.C.) during the Achamenid period. The ashtray is made using solid pieces of Lapis Lazuli and not the powder of Lapis dust mixed with glue, which is becoming common in today’s market. The Lapis is its natural colour and is not altered in any way. The fine workmanship visible on every side of this ashtray is extraordinary. The ashtray measures 4 ½" long x 4” wide x 1 ½" deep.
